Re-purposing an old ironing board for the front door entrance was something I had wanted to do for a while.
Out yardsale-ing with my sister-in-law, Mollie, one weekend and I was ecstatic when I saw the price on this baby..I won’t divulge the price since I have sold this piece.
OH Don’t pay any attention to the poor worm. He was pretty stiff so it wasn’t even good for fish bait…No time to go fishin anyway. Got to get this old ironing board in shape.
This old ironing board was pretty simple. I got some old white paint, acrylic preferably, and an old chip brush. Take your chip brush and dip in the paint and then dab onto an old towel or paper towel until most of the paint is gone.
Then lightly brush in even strokes going in a downward motion and then an upward motion. As you make your strokes and are about to stop lightly life upwards and away from the ironing board with your brush. This helps to not leave any stop marks.
I remembered I had some stencils I hadn’t used yet and I believe I got these from Walmart quite a while ago. So I am not sure how much they cost but don’t think they were very much. I used tape to see where I wanted them then I sprayed the backs with stencil adhesive spray.
I didn’t have any stencil creme and sure wasn’t going to make a special trip to the store..at least I didn’t think I had until I was finished and it was in the bottom of a box where I had put them. Sooo I just used some paint I had on had from Caromal Colours called Peppercorn. I loaded my stencil brush and then I of loaded most of the paint onto a piece of paper I had and lightly made circular motions to fill in the letters. I also had a small Flur-de-lis stencil and I put it above the greeting.
I love how it turned out and I think it might have taken me about an hour and half.
Oh yea I found the little sign that I attached to the top and spray painted it with chalk paint. When I put it up for sale I put with chalk on it
We are here most of the time unless we aren’t here.
I made the door reef also…maybe I will get around to doing a video on how to make one. They are really easy.
